Who is Eileen Holland from A Town Like Alice and what is their importance?

Eileen Holland is an Englishwoman who is held captive with Jean Paget. The long marches prove to be exceedingly difficult for Eileen, and Jean takes over the care of her baby in order to allow Eileen the opportunity to focus on her older children. When the older children die, Jean tries to ignite Eileen's interest in the baby, but she is too weak and emotionally distraught to do so. Eileen later dies, placing the baby in Jean's permanent care.
