Who is Capt. Arthur Paget from A Town Like Alice and what is their importance?

Captain Arthur Paget is Jean's father. He is an Englishman, who marries Scottish W.A.A.C. officer, Jean Macfadden, during World War I. After the armistice, the couple moves to Malaya, where Paget is employed as the manager of a rubber plantation. Arthur and Jean have two children, Donald and Jean. Paget is killed in a car crash near Ipoh. His wife and children were in England at the time of his death.
