What transpires when Clyde Acker walks for a cola at the Temple Inn?

When Clyde Acker steps down the hallway of the Temple Inn for a soda at the machine, he is accosted. A couple of Klan thugs challenge him at knifepoint. They threaten his family should he not deliver a guilty verdict in the Carl Lee trial. They then promptly disappear.
