The novel is set in Biblical times in the holy lands of Jerusalem. The setting is an area where sheep and bears flourish and armies fight with spears. The weather and the desert sands are not as important to the story as the Biblical significance of it. The setting is what is considered by Christians God's Kingdom on earth. It is this place that Saul rules and is jealous of David, treating him badly due to his own selfishness. It is also this place that David comes to rule and is a good, kind king who one day finds himself in the same situation as Saul. However, David reacts differently, creating the contrast that the writer has attempted to create in this novel.
