The wig Janine wears to disguise herself when she enters the Center symbolizes her need to hide the truth. In a literal sense, Janine is hiding her identity as a protestor to the people in the clinical. However, she is also trying to hide from the memory of having had an abortion herself years before. The memories of the abortion are particularly disturbing because Janine became pregnant as a result of having been gang raped at a party. She has hidden from this truth for years because she has never told anyone what happened to her.
