How did Hugh feel about being 40?

Hugh felt every bit of being 40. He supposed that men started wondering at that age if they had done anything to leave a mark on the world. He wondered what would be said at his funeral if he died that day. He had made a difference in some people's lives because of his career, and he had Wren. However, his life was mundane. Plus his back hurt when he was on his feet all day. He feared that he was at the crest of his life, and the rest of his live would be a march down hill.
