Byron describes Christmastime on the plantation as a very happy time. There are bonfires along the river. Negroes in the boiling house making molasses. There is a parade as the cane is cut and brought to the sugarhouse. The small negro children squeal because they know they will get candy. The heat is brutal in the sugarhouse, but the Negroes take to it as they work hard to make the molasses. Then the Negroes dance after working so hard.
