Hank's mind drifts back to his last encounter with his parents, two days before their deaths, when his father had asked him to look into their financial situation. Hank had said that there was no way to keep the bank from foreclosing. He wanted to talk to them about it, but his father went to bed. His mother said not to worry, that they'll manage.
