On the way home, Hank tries to explain his actions and emotions to Sarah. He says that when he realized Jacob wasn't dead, he couldn't bring himself to finish the job. Hank says that despite everything, Jacob is his brother. He doesn't want him to die. He says that he'd wanted to protect them, but he had also wanted to save Jacob.
