At the end of her blog post in which she tells readers about her relationship with Emily and asks whether they think that it is strange that Emily did not come to pick up her son, she tells them that she has to go because the chocolate chip cookies she is baking are burning. The baking of the cookies symbolize her attempt to nurture her child and be a good mother to him.
