Well Gene does have a rooomate, but while Finny is recovering in his home in Boston, he calls Finny and asks to keep his spot open. Brinker accuses Gene of purposely getting rid of Finny for a room to himself. Gene makes up a sarcastic response in the Butt Room.

Finny is his real roommate, but after Finny hurts his leg (an act that Gene is sort of responsible for) he leaves to recuperate and Gene has another roomate in the interim.
