Paul and Neal are similar in that they both have drinking problems. Norman, however, doesn't really "help" either of them. He is awed by Paul.... almost afraid of him. Thus, after one unsuccessful attempt to talk to him.... he gives up on it. As far as Neal is concerned, Norman tries to keep him out of trouble, but as in Paul's case.... Norman just doesn't have much impact or influence.
