Adrian is Helen's husband. He is described as a man of many talents, most of which are ideal for maintaining a home far from civilization. When we first meet Ade, he is an artist employed by a Chicago-based advertising agency. He learned electrical engineering during a stint in the Navy, and he appears to be a skilled carpenter and woodworker. Adrian is the artist responsible for the many line drawings found throughout the book.
