How does E. M. Forster use imagery in A Passage to India?

I love the imagery in this novel. This is the lush India, vibrant with the colours ans texture of another era. Forster's description of busy markets, the Marabar caves, and life in the British Raj can almost bring you the smells and heat of the settings.
