According to the author, the town of Littleton, and in particular the culture at Columbine High School, is critical in understanding how bullying became an accepted part of everyday life. In addition to the social hierarchy with athletes often leading the harassment, there was also a group of evangelical Christian students who acted as “self-appointed moral elite who perceived the kids who dressed differently as evil and targeted them” (187).
