Why is Egeus upset? What right does he claim if he should not get his way?

Egeus is upset that his daughter is wanting to mary Lysander instead of his pick of Demetrius. Egeus begs Theseus for the ancient Athenian right to either make his daughter marry Demetrius or have the power to kill her.
