Why do Theseus, Hippolyta, Lysander, and Demetrius comment so much upon the speeches of the lion (Snug) and the moon (Robin Starveling)? act 5

During the performance, Theseus, Lysander, Demetrius and Hippolyta add commentary which criticizes the action, and makes fun of the antics of the laymen. I think this is ironic considering the antics that went on in the forest.
