Love is of course a major theme in this play or rather the difficulty of love. Lysander comments that, “The course of true love never did run smooth.” Frequently people's "love" is unrequited and it takes a little magic to put love in the right order! The main characters scurry around the forest falling in and out of love until Puck finally gets things right.
