Why does More disapprove of King Henry's divorce in the play, A Man for All Seasons?

As Chancellor of England, More is morally opposed to King Henry VIII’s divorce to Catherine of Aragon. He does not oppose it because he wants to be a martyr, but rather, he cannot support the divorce because of his conscience.
