In Chapter 6 of A Long Way from Chicago we see some additional character traits in Joey that we've not seen yet. It is in this chapter that we see the intense desire he has for learning to drive a car, and a changed perspective toward his grandmother. The rummage sale scene opens his eyes to his grandmother's wit, survival instincts, as well as her ability to still maniuplate some of the town's leaders.
