How does Solomon explain his part in the real estate development to Toby in the novel, A Land Remembered?

Solomon tells Toby that his previous real estate ventures have ruined the natural land and that he is not proud of his accomplishments. He continues to say that he has willed all of the land he owns to be preserved in its natural state.
