A Knight of the Word is narrated in third person and is in the past tense. The point of view in the story is not limited to one character. The two characters that the point of view is told from the most will be Nest Freemark and John Ross. The main plot in the story heavily involves these two characters.

The story takes place in a fictional world in which there are demons and fairy type creatures. These beings fight in a war between the Void and the Word. The world that the story takes place in is much like the real world and the majority of the people in the world don't realize that there is this epic battle being waged around them.

A Knight of the Word is the second book in the Word and the Void series by Terry Brooks. Despite the fact that this is the second book in the series, the author will give enough information that the reader will be able to understand what is going on and have a basic idea of what happened in the first book leading up to these events.
