This quote from A Doll's House by Ibsen: "Because an atmosphere of lies like that infects and poisons the whole life of a home. In a house like that, every breath that the children take is filled with the germs of evil." Act 1, pg 179 (most editions) comes at a time when Torvald has replied to Nora's question about Krogstad's character. He tells her that he is a moral outcast and that most people avoid him because he spreads dishonesty wherever he shows up. Torvald says the above quote, but it hypocritical because both Torvald and Nora are neck deep in their dishonesty toward one another, and toward the law.
