What happens when Clarity falls into the water in the novel, A Dog’s Journey?

When Clarity falls into the water, Buddy lunges off the side of the dock and into the warm water. He reaches Clarity quickly and gently snags her shirt. Then he pulls her head out of the water and turns to the shore.
