The first of the three spirits that appear to Scrooge in A Christmas Carol is called the Ghost of Christmas Past. He is neither male or female, short in stature, dressed in a white gown with a golden belt. His robe has summer flowers on it and he carries a holly branch. From the top of his head there shines a very bright light. It is almost so bright that it blinds Ebeneezer.
