Melchior's mother, Mrs. Gabor, is a staunch supporter of her son. She defends his paper, "Copulation", on the premise he didn't understand the topic was inappropriate for a school project, an she was completely against her husband's decision to send Melchior to a reformatory. At least until she learned of Wendla's rape.... the rape was the game changer.
