Mrs. Bergmann, Wendla's mother, is hugely concerned with keeping her daughter a little girl. Unfortunately, she succeeds in keeping Wendla so innocent that she knows nothing about sex, babies, and the act of making babies. When Wendla becomes pregnant, her mother is the first to realize what has happened.... Wendla has no idea. To fix the problem, Mrs. Bergmann gives her daughter abortion pills, an action that will lead to Wendla's death.
