Frank Vann adopted John Paul Vann just two months before John Paul Vann's eighteenth birthday. Even though he always loved John Paul Vann and treated him well, he was not allowed to adopt John Paul Vann until he was almost full-grown because Myrtle Lee Tripp didn't want him to.
