John Paul Vann retires from the military in 1963, only to go back to Vietnam with the AID in 1965 and serve until his death in 1972. Based on what we've learned from "The Funeral" section, why do you think he does this?

John Paul Vann's sense of duty is so strong that even though he is not an active member of the U.S. armed forces anymore, he still feels compelled to do his part to help win the war in Vietnam. Therefore, he "re-enlists" in the AID and returns to Vietnam to keep up the good fight.
