Who is Mrs. Nancy Sheridan from A Map of the World and what is their importance?

Mrs. Sheridan is Rafferty's star witness, who he describes as the "the mother of us all" (pg. 367). Barbara lives down the street from the Mackennys, who accuse Alice Goodwin of child molestation and often babysits for Robbie Mackenny.
