In the graphic novel 300 the setting takes place in two area, Sparta and the Hot Gates. Sparta is a military state renowned for their warriors and the harsh practises to make them the ultimate fighting machines. The Hot Gates are a naturally formed chasm that will funnel the massive Persian Army to a point where their numbers won't count for much else.
