In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird in Chapters 18-21, why does Mayella think Atticus is making fun of her?

Atticus treats Mayella with respect, something that had never happened before. She thinks Atticus is mocking her when he calls her "Miss Mayella" and "ma'am".
