Ray Bradbury actually did not write the poem-- he wrote the short story in which the poem by Sara Teasdale was quoted.  The kind of people who live in a house that does everything for them are people who have grown to rely completely upon technology in their day-to-day survival.  They have become lazy and complacent, and ironically it is the very technology they have built their existence on that ultimately vaporizes them into extinction, leaving nothing more than a silhouette on the side of their house as a reminder that they had ever existed.
