How does Governor Danforth react to the possibility that Elizabeth is pregnant?

When Danforth recevies news that Elizabeth is pregnant, he has her examined. When no signs of pregnancy are discovered, he states he will let her be kept another month and if she shows signs of pregnancy, she will live another year
until she is delivered.
