Brontë uses different characters to illustrate aspects of reason and passion. As a result, she is able to establish a sense of tension between the two. Jane embodies both of these aspects, but the primary conflict between the two is persent within Jane..... something we hear in her thoughts, rather than see in Brontë's descriptions. In doing so, she portrays Jane's journey in a way that exposes Jane's own need to balance these elements within herself.
