Dr. Gregory writes to his daughters to warn them of the common deceptions of men. Wollstonecraft agrees that men can be deceitful, but she doubts that "decorum" can protect girls from villains, as Dr. Gregory suggests. Wollstonecraft notes that an education that "make[s] the heart clean, and give[s] the head employment" would be better protection.
