Norman Maclean - This is the author of the book about a major fire in Montana.

R. Wagner Dodge - This was the foreman of the crew of Smokejumpers.

Frank Derry - This was the person who made improvements to the parachute that allowed jumpers more accuracy when jumping into fires.

Robert Sallee - This person was one of three survivors of the fire who later worked for an engineering firm.

Walter Rumsey - This person was one of the survivors of the fire and went on to become a soil conservationist.
