Object Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Objects
Blue satin dress - This is what Tea Cake picks out for Janie. The Eatonville residents wonder what happened to it when Janie returns home.
West Florida - This is where Janie was raised by her grandmother.
Pear tree - Janie spends time here during her childhood and compares her desire for self-realization to this object.
Eatonville - Janie moves here with Joe, where Joe becomes mayor.
Mule - Janie relates herself to this in that both suffer abuse, neglect, and are worked hard by their "masters."
