Objective: Chapter 1 Race and social status play an important role in how Kino and Juana are treated at the doctor's office. Although they need his expertise desperately, the doctor refuses to see him because Coyotito comes from a poor family. Even the doctor's servant ignores Kino and his family, dismissing someone from his own race. The objective of Daily Lesson #1 is to explore these topics more thoroughly by enacting this important scene.
