Lesson 1 (from Part I (Chapters 1 - 8))

Objective

The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze how Jason Grace's death affects Apollo. In Part I, Apollo and Meg are driving a hearse with their friend Jason Grace's body back to its final resting place at Camp Jupiter. Apollo recalls how Jason died at the hands of the evil emperor Caligula while Apollo, who was present, was not able to save Jason. Apollo feels a great deal of guilt and regret about Jason's death.

Lesson

Class Discussion: Who was Jason Grace? How did Jason die? Why are Apollo and Meg driving the hearse with Jason's body back to Camp Jupiter? What does Apollo feel about Jason's death?
