Objective

Lesson

1 - Class discussion: Where is the novel set? Why does Lucy's family have to leave? Why does Lucy run away from home? Do Lucy's parents leave too quickly? Would you have given up on Lucy like they did? What will Lucy do now?

2 - Journal: Each student writes a 1-2 paragraph journal entry from Lucy's perspective describing her reasons for running away.

3 - Missing scenes: Each student writes a short, 1-page chapter that describes Lucy's experience in the woods as her family searches for her.

4 - Journalism: Each student researches and writes a journalistic article on the subject of missing children, describing common reasons for children to go missing, common outcomes, programs in existence to find missing children...
