1) Homework: Students will research England in the middle 1500's, especially as it concerns Henry VIII and Prince Edward. Then students should write a short paper on the physical, cultural, governmental, and economical aspects of the setting.

2) Class Discussion: Could this novel had been set anywhere? Would most of the situations in The Prince and the Pauper have applied to any location in Europe during this era? How did the author make this setting unique? How did the setting affect the characters, the plot, and the themes? Why is the setting important?

3) Group Work: In groups, students will research the monarchy in England in the present time and discuss the similarities and differences between the present and the 1500's. Students should list the most...
