Admitting You Have a Problem, Prologue and Chapters 1-3
• The novel takes place in Pine Cove, and opens right after a prominent member of Pine Cove society, Bess Leander, commits suicide. She overdosed on depression pills, which were prescribed to her for her obsessive cleaning. Her husband, Joseph, swears Bess was not depressed.
• Theo, the police chief, is called away from the investigation with a call that there's a fight at the local bar, the Slug. Molly, a local actress, is biting a stranger's leg and the bar owner is standing over her with a baseball bat.
• Theo handcuffs Molly and takes her home. He asks her about her depression medication, and makes her promise to call the police the next time she has a problem.
• Meanwhile, a sea beast awakens, remembering the taste of humans. The beast begins to ascend toward the town. Theo visits the town...
