Objective

Objective: Section 1 This section begins disjointedly with a curious method of storytelling. The author uses newspaper clippings, interviews, press conferences, and notes from the kidnapper to begin the story. The objective of this lesson is to figure out the author's purpose in using this method and how it adds or takes away from the storytelling.

1) 1.) Group discussion: Split the class into three or four groups and have each group discuss the following: What is the author's purpose in using this curious method of storytelling? Is it effective or distracting? Why?

2.) Class discussion: Do you think the author would have been more successful with another kind of storytelling device? If so, what? Why do you think that would work better?

3.) Debate: Split the class into two groups and assign each a side of the following topic: The author's use of newspaper clippings, interviews, press conferences, and kidnapper notes...
