The reader is introduced to Lizabeth Kane, a newly divorced mother of two. She is ready to establish herself as an independent woman, and as such, is searching for a job. The objective of this lesson is to get to know Lizabeth's character and motivations.

Lesson

1.) Group discussion: Split the class into three or four groups and have each group discuss the following: What strikes you as most important to Lizabeth at this point? Do her expectations and dreams seem realistic?

2.) Class discussion: Lizabeth admits that her dream to be a fairy when she was 5 years old hasn't changed much. Does this make her seem like an idealistic dreamer? What challenges might she face with such a dream? How might she use that dream to her advantage?
