The story opens on a dark, rainy night. It was past midnight. Thad Roberts was in a car with Sandra and his girlfriend, Rebecca. He was driving slowly through the compound, keeping his speed at five miles an hour so that he wouldn't arouse suspicion. Even though he wanted to race out of the compound, he stopped at every red light and waited. The three shouted gleefully as they made it through the lights, past the guards, and out of the gates of the compound. The back of the Jeep, weighed down, was a 300 lb. safe.
