Objective: Background: In the background section we learn about the history of Greek theatre. We are told about the audience in attendance, the reasons plays were produced, and their premises. The objective of this lesson is to learn about the history of Greek theatre.

1) Group Discussion: The background provides the reader with a brief synopsis of the life and times of Greek theatre. Any Greek citizen attending the play would likely already know the story or myth that they play was based on. Why do you think it was important that the audience already knew the story or myth before seeing the play? How do you think the citizens would have heard the story or myth before seeing the play?
