Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters

Betty Hawthorne - This character is the mother and wife who holds the family together after her son's death.

Jack Hawthorne - This is the main character of the story who, when he is twelve years old, accidentally kills his younger brother.

Phoebe Hawthorne - This is the sister of the main character.

Arcady Yegudkin - This is the music teacher from Russia who made his way to America with his wife.
