Laurel flies to New Orleans to be with her father during an appointment with the eye doctor. Laurel's father rarely worries about his personal health, therefore his phone call to Laurel about his eye problem caused her a great deal of concern. Not only this, but Laurel's mother is deceased, therefore there is a close relationship with her father. Laurel wants to be involved in any problems concerning her father.

2. Why does Judge chose a doctor in New Orleans rather than one close to home?

Dr. Courtland is a close personal friend of Judge's. Not only have they been friends for a long time, but Judge helped put Dr. Courtland through school. Judge trusts Dr. Courtland more than he would a stranger, which is what he would get if he went to a doctor near his home. Dr. Courtland also knows Laurel, which makes this choice of doctor's a comforting choice for her as well.
