This is a pre-reading activity to help the students acquire background for Night.

Divide students into groups of three or four. Give each group a topic regarding the Holocaust to research on the Internet. Assign students to find at least ten facts about their topic. They can write the information on notebook paper, then later transfer the information to poster-size paper. Display the posters and have each group present their information to the class. Some topics include:


--The Holocaust: who, what, where, when, and why

--Tthe Nazis, Aryan Race, Gestapo, SS, Third Reich, genocide

--Antisemitism, Jews in Germany, the Resistance, the Final Solution/Wannsee Conference, Night of the Broken Glass (Kristallnacht), Righteous Among the Nations

--Concentration camps: who, what, where, when, why

--Allies-Axis, D-Day, European countries controlled by Germany in WWII

--Nuremberg Trials
